| Product Information CARAPACE is a high performance, professional product designed to provide energy efficient municipal and domestic water pipe freeze protection. CARAPACE offers a reliable, cost-effective alternative to blasting and excavation. CARAPACE is the only product Heat-Line recommends for use with constant pressure water supply systems. CARAPACE is constructed using a high density NSF STD 14 approved polyethylene pipe for potability. The self-regulating heating cable is extruded directly onto the outer surface of the pipe. The extruded layer is of high density polyethylene which provides a protective shell to guard against mechanical injury while ensuring the conductive cores of the heating cable remain in unyielding contact with the pipe wall. CARAPACE provides superior thermal heat transfer and unsurpassed energy efficiency when combined with thermal.insulation and a thermostat. Product Application The cut-to-length capability of CARAPACE allows it to be tailored to length and installed on site by qualified trades people. CARAPACE is available in reel lengths up to 1000' and can be used in new applications or to replace an existing system. When measuring for system length, 5 feet should be added to allow for tailoring of power connections. CARAPACE is also available factory finished to length, as a plug-in ground fault protected cord-set model, or with a 6 foot cold lead for electrical connection to ground fault protected circuits. In a lake installation, CARAPACE should terminate in the lake at a minimum depth of 6' at LOW water mark. This is to be certain the pipe will be freeze protected below ice level to maintain free-flowing water within the pipes entire length. In areas where the recommended depth cannot be reached, a shore well may be considered - check with local ministries and authorities. In applications where pipes will be exposed to atmospheric (free) air, closed-cell or other approved weatherproof insulation is required. Insulation will help to maintain energy efficiency and cold temperature reliability. Insulation is recommended for use in all new applications; however any pipe subjected to outside air must be completely insulated to retain the heat within the pipe. CARAPACE often requires consultation as there are large application variables. Heat-Line provides technical support for these situations. Specifications
